The Beatles, 'Introducing The Beatles,' MEGA RARE Vee Jay Vinyl 1st Pressing.
This is one of the Holy Grail's of Beatles collecting ... a genuine first press of their first American album. It was released on the Vee Jay label in 1964 and has the original run-order (featuring Love Me Do and PS I Love You - quickly replaced) before Capitol took over the rights to the songs. You can tell it's real as it has the band name above the spindle hole, a nice coloured rianbow on the label rim and George's shadow can be seen on the front cover. This one was actually printed using Vee Jay 45 labels, as they had run out of album style ones (while rushing the album to market). It's, really, the US version of a black and gold Please Please Me.
This is a rarity from my own personal collection which I am now downsizing. It's been stored away for years (shipped over from America!) and I've barely touched it.
It's decent, all-round. but not perfect. Here's a breakdown so you know what to expect:
The cover is OK, but a bit worn. While still sturdy and strong it does have a large split running across the bottom, and two splits across the top. I would suspect these could easily be repaired, but I will leave that to you! The US covers were made more delicately than their UK counterparts.
The inner sleeve is original, but with creases and splits. These were very fragile - and are often missing. So good to have it.
The vinyl, visually, is good, just one or two light hairlines. It played through absolutely fine on my machine, bar one very minor skip on A Taste of Honey. But solid, that aside. The labels are good, although there is some spindle wear - there is a scribbling-style light marking on both sides (pictured - possibly where it's been caught on the spindle?).
In summary then, this is a chance to own a real rarity - not easily available in America, let alone the UK. It's a little worn, but still plays relatively solidly - and is so hard to find. Great to have just as a piece of musical history!!
**Please note that the price quoted for postage (2nd class signed) is for the UK only. Anywhere else and that's obviously subject to change).**
Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
