The most obscure Original UK Lennon Album, ‘UNFINISHED MUSIC NO. 1 TWO VIRGINS’ was John’s first UK solo Album release in 1968. Not surprisingly, it caused much of a stir at the time due to the nude content of the album cover and the experimental nature of the music content. A major obstacle was the record company, who refused to release it unless the pictures were changed. Eventually the album was distributed by Track Records in the UK. In addition many record shops refused to stock the album, and it therefore only sold around 5,000 copies, not even entering the charts. Even the music press opposed it and no editor would accept any of the adverts. It was the first Solo Beatles album to be deleted by EMI.
The naked photographs were taken in early October 1968 in the basement of Ringo's property in Montague Square London, where John set up a camera using a delayed shutter release, taking the photos himself.
Released by Apple UK on 29th November 1968, this Original first UK STEREO Vinyl LP is on the Dark Green Apple Label, with the ‘Track Records’ logo, with ‘Sold in UK….’ and ‘Mfd in UK’ printed to both record labels.
Both record labels are in Excellent condition. – there are a few light centre spindle lines visible to both labels.
Matrix and Stamper information:
Side 1 matrix, SAPCOR 2 A-1, and Side 2, SAPCOR 2 B-1.
Side 1 stampers, 1 O, and Side 2, 1 O.
Both vinyl surfaces are in Very Good Plus condition – with just a few light surface hairline scratches visible on both sides.
And is housed in it’s original, fully Laminated Sleeve, featuring John and Yoko baring all on both sides. The reverse of the Stereo sleeve is printed 'Apple Records May 1968’, ‘Made in Merrie England’ and ‘Photographs by John Lennon’. The white, Fully Laminated sleeve is a respectable example, and in Very Good Plus condition. As you will see from the scans provided, both sides of the sleeve are clean, there are signs of record impression to the front and reverse of the sleeve and some unbroken laminate lifting. All edges are free from any splits. The reverse panel of the sleeve is in the same condition as the front panel, with the exception of an area of missing laminate on the bottom right lifting on the reverse, this is all so common on this sleeve.
Overall this is a respectable example of this rare 1968 UK original and very controversial John Lennon collectible vinyl LP.
