Description
I am selling some early, rare, and rather obscure Beatles LPs from my collection. So, please check my other auctions too.
In this auction:
· “JOLLY WHAT! THE BEATLES & FRANK IFELD ON STAGE” by the Beatles & Frank Ifeld
· This LP is Vee Jay Records VJS 1085.
· This is the RARE STEREO PRESSING. In fact, as you probably know, ALL VEE JAY STEREO PRESSINGS ARE MUCH RARER THAN THE MONO PRESSINGS.
· This LP was released in February of 1964.
· The LP (cover and vinyl) in this auction is the REAL THING. It is NOT a counterfeit. We know this because:
1) The cover has excellent print quality without blurred letters or images.
2) The cover has the printing on the spine: “VJS 1085 JOLLY WHAT! THE BEATLES & FRANK IFELD”.
3) The vinyl has the AudioMatrix logo lightly stamped in the trail off.
· The labels have the Vee Jay Records “brackets logo” and the printing “Long Playing Microgroove”.
· The labels have “STEREO” printed at the top
· As you probably know, Vee Jay Records, for a short period of time in 1963-1964, held the rights in the U.S. to a handful of Beatles songs that the record company recycled several times by selling the same vinyl recordings in different covers. The buying public quickly realized that they were not acquiring any new Beatles’ material in each Vee Jay album they purchased. Instead, they were buying basically the same Beatles’ tunes when they purchased “Introducing the Beatles”, “Songs, Pictures & Stories of the Fabulous Beatles” and “The Beatles vs The Four Seasons” (Beatles disk).
· With the issue of this LP, Vee Jay Records carried their misrepresentation of their Beatles’ material to a new level by stating on the cover “ON STAGE” which naturally implied to the average Beatles LP-buyer that this LP contained LIVE recordings from Beatles and Frank Ifeld concerts… which it didn’t!!!
· This LP contains the following Beatles’ tunes: “Please Please Me”, “From Me To You”, “Ask Me Why”, and “Thank You Girl”.
· The rear cover states that The Beatles and Frank Ifeld were combined on this LP as they “are the most popular recording stars in Europe” (of course, at that time).
· The COVER is in STRONG VG CONDITION. The front cover image and printing is nice and clean with very minimal wear. The wear is primarily on the top and bottom seams (please see images). There is some flaking and balding on the lower seam at the lower corners and lower mid-seam where there is a 3-inch split. The top seam has some flaking and wear at the top of the spine. The rear primarily white cover is also nice and clean showing slight aging and has a small tear at the bottom left corner near the opening.
· The Vee Jay covers for this LP had the STEREO designation with VJS 1085 (the “S” in the catalog number representing “Stereo”) printed on the front cover slick, but ALL of the rear covers with liner notes and song titles have the MONO pressing slick with the catalog number VJLP 1085 printed at the top right corner.
· The VINYL is in VERY STRONG VG+ CONDITION with several light surface hairlines/scuffs. There are some spindle scuffs on the labels (please see images).
· STEREO VEE JAY LPS are definitely tough to find.
· It’s a VERY NICE STEREO PRESSING of this Beatles LP to add to your vinyl collection.
