An original 1970 copy of LIB on the UK Apple label. Matrix 3/3. Please note that spring 1970 very 1st copies are likely to have '2' in the matrix. In the autumn they'd have moved onto 3U each side - and that's when this particular copy dates from. We can date it into 1970, and coming hot on the heels of the 1st spring copies, because of the label design. On side 1 the '1' of track one can be found directly below the I&D of 'Side 1'. It sounds crazy - but it's true. This label design is identical to the 1st copies from a few months earlier. Why are these copies interesting? Well, they're only a few months from the original masters - and they were pressed on nice heavy vinyl. They are well worth checking out. LIB requires a very clean presentation in my opinion [and only a few copies can properly deliver this]. The vinyl comes housed in an original thin spine cover. We also have an original Apple inner sleeve from the time. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In lovely condition and has only seen very light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a few very insignificant marks per side - absolutely nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Don't under estimate this grading on LIB. In my experience LIB is an incredibly fussy record - one of the fussiest by the Beatles. Most copies, even very good looking copies, just will not be able to deliver clean audio into the fussiest moments. Think Let It Be and Winding Road - these tracks will catch out 80+% of copies. Only a solid early copy that has been very sparingly played and has been carefully looked after is going to stand a half chance of playing these tracks near perfect. It is very unusual to hear these tracks rendered with a clean background. But that's what we have here. A super clean player. Expect nothing more than a few light crackles in one isolated spot per side. This is probably the cleanest, and consistently clean, player I've witnessed for quite a while. For someone who is very fussy with audio - this would be worthy of serious consideration. And you're not breaking the bank trying to get a 1st press playing perfect. Well worth a good think....I'd argue. Highly recommend.
Cover (Ex) In great condition and the aesthetic of that image - has been superbly preserved. Nice deep blacks which have not faded. Front and back exhibit just a couple light thumbnail creases, an no laminate lift at all. Edge wear is very slight and the openings are still sharpish. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) The sides have split a bit and been taped up. Light ageing. Otherwise aok.
