Description

A 1st press of MMT on the UK Parlophone label from 1976. Matrix 1/1. Stampers 1-AH/2-RT. So, why 1976? because MMT was only released in the USA in LP format back in the day - 1967. After realising Parlophone were missing a trick and that LP format was sought after - it got a 1st release in the UK in 1976. The 1st pressings are easy to distinguish from 80's copies - look at the perimeter text on the labels. It must read "Emi Recording...", and not "All Rights..". I tend to find that even a lot of the original '76 copies were often pressed on quite flimsy vinyl . Thankfully, this example seems to buck the trend. It's quite sturdy and doesn't exhibit any of that 'wobbly late-70's vibe'! The vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover with the attached inner booklet. Also included is the original Emi company inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are practically silent and the audio comes across with great clarity. The only vague interference I could pick out was in 'Strawberry Fields' - and that was just a momentary burst of static - over before it's even started. Do expect the odd crackle in a couple of isolated moments. But this LP represents a very clean top-level rendition of some of the Beatles greatest works, and from a 1976 1st press.
Cover (Ex) So, due to the absence of lamination on these covers they are extremely difficult to find in decent condition. But this example is way better than what usually surfaces. The front is lovely clean, unaged, and unworn. That iconic image on the front really does look pristine. There's a touch of light handling on the rear, but very little at all. The interior remains very nice and white unlike many examples you see. Yes, there's one or two handling marks on the rear panel, but by and large this is an impressive examples. All booklet pages are fully intact and stapled in - and have not been heavily thumbed. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing at extremities. A number written in biro at the top opening on one side. A one inch edge split at the top of one of the sides.
