Description

This is the legendary Mono 1st Press of Magical Mystery Tour by Capitol in the USA. This copy was pressed by the Scranton factory and bears its hallmark triangle with the letters I.A.M. inside it. Etching 'MAL2835-F9' on Side 1. The Capitol rainbow labels are consistent with 1st issue. The perimeter label text states 'Mfd by Capitol' - there is NO mention of the subsidiary text which is found on reissues. The Lp comes housed in an original gatefold sleeve with 24 page booklet. Also on the front cover is the EMI Export sticker showing it was manufactured in the USA and destined for export. The record labels and the cover show publishing credits as 'BMI' as you would find on a genuine 1st issue. What's even better is this baby is superbly preserved!
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) Has been remarkably well kept and clearly has only seen light use. Under close inspection we cannot make out a single mark either side. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity and minimal interference. We only detected some very light static in a couple of passages. That is all and that is very unusual for a record of this vintage which is so collectable. I'm a big fan of MMT and I can honestly say that MONO, on an original copy, is the BENCHMARK way to listen to it. You're not gonna beat that.
Cover (Ex) These US covers are notoriously difficult to find in good condition, but this one really bucks the trend. That front cover is almost totally unmarked and shows no wear at all - that has to be very very unusual. The rear is in practically the same condition with just the very lightest of handling wear. The interior is in great condition too and does not seem to be exhibiting any of the usual ageing. Please note the booklet pages are 100% present and in great condition but the mid-section pages, whilst still together, have come away from the cover. There are no hidden rips or nasties anywhere. The cover exhibits a bit of light edgewear in places, but nothing like most copies will be showing at 50 years of age. There's a bit of wear to the spine, but the text is still mostly visible. A wonderful copy to be sure.
