Description
"Meet The Beatles!," the first album by The Beatles released in the United States by Capitol Records.
Key facts about the album include:
Release and Importance: Released on January 20, 1964, "Meet The Beatles!" introduced the band to a large American audience, preceding their appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
Track Differences: Marketed as "The First Album by England's Phenomenal Pop Combo," it was the second Beatles album released in the U.S. (Vee-Jay Records released "Introducing... The Beatles" earlier). The tracklist differed from the UK's "With The Beatles," with some covers removed and singles like "I Want to Hold Your Hand" added.
Commercial Performance: The album topped the U.S. album chart for eleven weeks, starting February 15, 1964, and sold over 4 million copies by the end of that year.
Cover Art: The album cover features Robert Freeman's portrait of the band, a slightly altered version of the photo used for the UK album "With The Beatles" with a blue tint added for the U.S. release.
Reissues: The album has been reissued over the years, including the initial CD release in 2004 as part of "The Capitol Albums, Volume 1" box set, and again in 2014 within "The U.S. Albums" box set.
