Description
Here is a RARE ONE In this auction:
· “MEET THE BEATLES” by the Beatles
· This LP is Capitol Records T 2047.
· This is a MONO (monaural) PRESSING.
· This is a FIRST U.S. MONO PRESSING of this LP by CAPITOL RECORDS.
· We KNOW that this is a FIRST PRESSING, because there are NO BMI or ASCAP CREDITS PRINTED ON THE LABELS. Only the composers and play times are printed after the title of each cut.
· FIRST MONAURAL PRESSINGS of “Meet The Beatles” were issued January 20, 1964.
· According to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records by Perry Cox and Frank Daniels (page 133):
“This is the most desirable mono label variation because it is the first and rarest mono label.”
· Also according to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records by Perry Cox and Frank Daniels (page 133):
“Exact press runs are not known, but it is speculated that about 20,000 copies were manufactured with this label.”
· Only East Coast labels have been confirmed to be without BMI or ASCAP. The VINYL in this auction was PRESSED at CAPITOL’S SCRANTON PLANT based on that plant’s triangle-shaped symbol pressed into the trail-off vinyl.
· The COVER is the proper/correct Capitol-marked cover for this pressing. We know this because the front cover slick has “BEATLES” in dark brown, and the rear cover slick does NOT have “Produced by George Martin” printed on the back liner. Furthermore, this cover has the number “3” printed on the rear slick in the lower right corner which identifies this cover as also having been produced at Capitol’s Scranton Pressing Plant. So, the SOURCE of BOTH VINYL and COVER is CAPITOL’S SCRANTON PLANT.
· The COVER is in VG to WEAK VG+ CONDITION. There is light to moderate overall wear. There is some repaired-cracking/flaking on spine with a loss at the top and bottom of the spine of about 1-inch of paper in total. There is also about ½ -inch of paper missing on the bottom seam and some light flaking. There is a light crease near the bottom right corner at the opening and a name is written on the border at the top left corner. The primarily white rear cover has light to moderate overall “aging”. There are NO seam splits, NO ring wear and NO tears.
· The VINYL is in GOOD PLUS to VG MINUS CONDITION. There are numerous light to moderate hairlines/scuffs/scratches. Two or three of them are “feel-able”, so there will be some audio distraction. The vinyl still has gloss.
· A blue Capitol Records paper inner sleeve is included but it’s not in very good condition.
REMEMBER: THIS IS A FIRST MONO PRESSING and IS TOUGH TO FIND in ANY CONDITION. After all, how many of the estimated 20,000 that were pressed are still around now in 2019?
