Description
During the Beatles second stint in Hamburg (April to July 1961) they regularly backed English singer/guitarist Tony Sheridan. It was during one of these performances that they were recommended to orchestra leader Bert Kaempfert for recording. The sessions took place, not in a recording studio, but on a school stage at Friedrich-Ebert-Halle school in Hamburg. The Beatles backed Sheridan on a few numbers, including My Bonnie. It was released in Germany in 1961, but on that issue the group were credited as "Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers". It was released as a single in the UK on 5th January, 1962 (POLYDOR NH 66833) and this was the FIRST commercial release anywhere in the world of a record bearing The Beatles name.
This copy was bought by me new back in the 60's. The (original) sleeve does have my writing on the front ("The Saints" "My Bonnie" and "Tony Sheridan & The Beatles") and also the number 57 on the back, but otherwise is in excellent condition. I believe this is a first pressing, as it has the the number 1 after the Matrix no. (NH 66833) on both sides. The vinyl labels are exceptionally clean considering the age of this record. The vinyl itself shines like new, though close examination does reveal very light scuffing . I know that this record has not been played much and the spindle hole is very good, so I'm a bit puzzled as to why there is crackle on playback, but I have to be honest and admit that there is - perhaps it's something to do with the recording?
This has to be a collectors item, which is why I've started the bidding at £24.99.
