Artist :  THE BEATLES

LP Title :  Please Please Me

Label :  Parlophone / PMC 1202 / 1963 / MONO

Matrix Numbers :  XEX 421-1N [mother: 1 ][stamper: GP ]  / XEX 422-1N [mother: 1 2 ][stamper: GH ]

Notes :  Original and very early pressing with black & gold Parlophone labels containing the amended Northern Songs credit text - referred to as the 2nd Pressing and due to the very limited amount of copies that included these labels this is scarcer than the very 1st Pressing.  The text around the label rims reads 'The Parlophone Co. Ltd.' in lower case, an 'M T' tax code is embossed on the side-2 label, Ernest J. Day front laminated flipback sleeve with Angus McBean photo credit to the far right of the bottom corner, large 'Mono' text in top corner, early Emitex lined inner sleeve with slightly bolder 'Patents Applied for' and 'Made in Great Britain' text than later inner sleeves.

Condition :  We have played the entire album through and it sounds VG!  There is light scuffing across the surface of the vinyl with a handful of more noticeable marks on each side.  There is some crackling at the beginning and end of each side, plus some patches of crackles in places as well as a few little ticks and a couple of clicks, though at other times there is very little interference and near silence between songs - during some songs there is some audible distortion, increasingly so on side-2 which sounds like it was played more than side-1, and there is one small skip during 'Love Me Do'.  It's still a very nice sounding disc and it is highly possible that some of these faults may be helped with a professional clean.

The labels are clean with some spindle wear to the centres, and each has a tiny little nick/scratch.  The original Emitex inner sleeve is very creased and worn, with a small split to one top corner.

All four corners of the outer sleeve are worn and rubbed, but the main fault with this sleeve is the damaged bottom right corner - it is stained and rippled and the bottom edge of the flipback has split, this has tape residue across it though no tape exists now so the flipback joint has come loose.  Other wear to the front includes some crease lines to the laminate and a couple of spots of laminate loss to the top edge as well as some wear down the opening edge.  There are a couple of small spots of wear to the spine but the text is clear and readable.

The matt surface to the rear of the sleeve has some marking from handling and storage, and further evidence of the staining, damage and tape residue as mentioned above, with one piece torn away to the rear left corner and a 1-inch piece of the flipback (which as mentioned is loose) is also torn away.  A further small piece of the top right corner flip back has been torn away.

A decent listenable copy and very rare pressing of this classic Beatles debut LP!
