Description

Manufactured and released on the Parlophone Records label, catalogue number R 4983, this is a very rare UK release of The Beatles' 2nd single "Please Please Me" coupled with "Ask Me Why" on the B Side.  As you can see from the photos in the listing, this particular release has the "SOLD IN UK SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS SEE PRICE LISTS" text printed in the centre on both sides of the record labels. The original 1963 releases of this record, as with all UK Beatle single releases until "Can't Buy Me Love", did not have this text printed on the labels. I am quite certain this is a 5th issue release of this single from 1964, given that the perimeter text on the label is purely in upper case. The 4th issue had the lettering in lower case. However the matrix numbers found on this record are not listed on the Discogs website for either the 4th or 5th release of this record, making it an even more unusual release. The matrix number for Side A is: 7XCE 17217-1N   GGD  MPT1  and the matrix number for Side B is: 7XCE 17218-1N  T 11 K PMT1  On the A Side of the single, the raised K T tax markings are visible/have been stamped across the middle of the 4 prong centre.
PLEASE READ THE CONDITION OF THE RECORD:
Although the record still retains a nice glossy finish to it, i must say the vinyl is in a well used, "worn" condition displaying a lot of very feint, light small hairline surface marks on both sides of the record. However despite these surface marks the A Side plays surprisingly very well, still giving a punchy sound without any jumps or pops to be heard. There is obviously a bit of crackle to be heard during the play in/outer groove and play out/inner groove but this isn't that noticeable during the actual playing of the song itself. The B Side does have a feelable scratch to it, from the outer edge to about half way across the record, and although the record still plays, a "dead click" sound can be heard when the stylus passes over this scratch. More background crackle can be heard on the B Side but this mainly down to the song "Ask Me Why" being a much quieter song/ballad, compared to the more louder, rocking A Side "Please Please Me."
Therefore to be as honest and fair as i can in this listing, and to avoid any disappointment to those expressing interest, the record is not in the best of condition, although as i say it still plays. However the main reason for anybody wanting to own a copy of this record is down to it's rarity value with having the "SOLD IN UK SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS SEE PRICE LISTS" text printed on the record.
The record comes housed in a Parlophone sleeve which is in excellent, clean condition with very little creasing showing.
As i have stated, and for those who collect Beatle singles will know, this is a very rare Beatles record that is extremely hard to find, arguably one of the rarest original UK releases. There is only one other copy of this record being sold on Ebay UK at present and that seller is asking £499 for it.
