Description

The Beatles Revolver 1966 Mono 1st Press Vinyl XEX 606-1 rare 1/G 1/R moth/stamp
for reference visit Discogs, this release/listing = First issue with XEX-606-1 matrix number on Side 2, containing the withdrawn "Remix 11" version of "Tomorrow Never Knows". Dr. Robert on both record label and sleeve.
Further explanation: - When “Revolver” was initially mixed a different master for “Tomorrow Never Knows” was sent off to be pressed. This mix is known as ‘Remix 11’. Although subtle, it is different to the standard ‘Remix 8’ which was ultimately to replace it. The story goes that each group member was given the first copies from the production line and John went to listen to it. But, it turned out that he was unhappy with the mix or that the wrong one had been used and he informed George Martin. Production was then stopped as the new masters were cut and the pressing plates were replaced. First presses have a side 2 matrix number of XEX 606-1 whereas the standard presses have XEX 606-2 and beyond

Mother / Stamper indicators are very low, indicating a very early release: side one = 1/G, side two = 1/R (see below for explanation) At 9 o clock is the mother number. In this case it is Mother # 1 At 3 o clock is the stamper code. The code works like this:
GRAMOPHONELTD
123456789,10,11,12,13

The letter above is code for the corresponding number below. Example:  the stamper code side one is single letter "G" in this record. This corresponds to the numbers G='1'  so side one Stamper is #1 (lowest you can get)  the stamper code side two is single letter "R" in this record  corresponds to the numbers R='2'  so side one Stamper is #2
PLAYBACK: Side 1: Starts really powerfully, Taxman, sounds excellent, Eleanor Rigby, a great listen. There is a little crackle and some light pops in some of the quiet bits and in between tracks latterly - still a good listening experience overall
Side 2: As S1, a great, powerful opening - first 2 tracks again are superb. A few very light ticks and some light crackle occasionally. Still a very good listening experience all round - no skips/sticks -  NOBODY COULD BE DISAPPOINTED!
The sleeve has some creasing and wear, no rips though, very nice spine. Rear is clean, good flip backs, intact - see photos Plain inner is very good Labels and vinyl show some signs of use, it has been well played. There are plenty of light scuffs, scrapes and hairlines - nothing deep or major though and it still plays through very nicely.
