1969-1971 UK EMI "One Box" Stereo Pressing
PARLOPHONE PCS 7027 : MATRIX NOs YEX-637-1/YEX-638-1
(Same matrix that is used on the Y/B first pressings!)
Visually, the vinyl looks fantastic on both sides. Absolutely stunning! Lovely fresh surfaces with only the smallest signs of paper sleeve removal marks. Visually, there is the odd slight scuff on either side but there's very little to speak of. This combined with the audio playback grades it as a conservative Excellent -, as there are some occasional ticks over both sides and some slight signs of crackle on inner groove tracks like "She's Leaving Home" and a little bit louder crackle in the ending of "A Day In The Life". I think that this mainly comes from the vinyl formulation used back in the 1960s not being /aging the best but perhaps deep cleaning could change that. Overall the sound quality is just fantastic and is hands down the best stereo pressing of this album you can buy without breaking the bank on a Nimbus Supercut pressing. The mono version may sound fuller, but this stereo pressing has much, much better fidelity and the songs feel much roomier. This is a copy to make any audiophile smile!
The cover is in Excellent - condition, too. Original 1969 UK Garrod & Lofthouse later design flipback with thicker inner flaps, more vibrant colours and "Patents Pending" text on the back bottom right. As you can see in the photos there are some signs of storage wear and slight foxing on the openings but overall the cover is still in great condition and the spine looks beautiful! There is one decently sized thumbnail mark to the front and some creasing / corner bumping especially on the back side, but overall the images look stunning and overall it's still great!
Includes a generic white paper inner sleeve which I think is original, it definitely looks of the era but I haven't verified any of the text on it so it may have been swapped at some point. Either way, it's condition matches the rest of the album and there aren't any seam splits to speak of.
This copy would happily satisfy any audiophile looking for the best way to hear this famous classic without having to spend thousands to do so, or spending big to get a Y/B first pressing. It's not 100% perfect by any means, but it's pretty good! The tube cutting is just delightful.
I'm willing to combine postage on multiple purchases. Any questions, please give me a shout! Thank you
