Welcome to my set of auctions for BEATLES LPs. This is a VERY SPECIAL LP! One of the best I have ever had for sale on E Bay.
The BEATLES Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Stereo PCS 7027 YEX 637-1 (3 GAP) YEX 638-1 (4 GOM)
There are many Beatles LPs available on E Bay at any one time including Sgt Pepper. However, this particular copy is STUNNING in all aspects and is a true collector’s item.
This is a UK 1969 copy or Pepper with the appropriate labels. Parlophone, Black and Yellow with NO ‘Sold in UK..’ statement. On each side of the label there is a slight variation which you can notice in the photos. On side 1, track 4 is printed as ‘GETIING BETTER’ obviously it looks like there was a slight printing error here as the top of the T was missed off and it looks like a double II.
Also the ‘stereo’ on the right hand side of PARLOPHONE is dropped lower than on side 2 and is almost touching the yellow lettering, compared to side 1 where it is about 5mm higher.
As for the VINYL, well this is a TREAT! Absolutely stunning unmarked vinyl with an almost flawless playback, if I heard 2 or 3 minor clicks that was about it. I hesitate to use the word that describes ‘Polos’ but this is pretty close to it!
As you can see from the labels they look pretty amazing too. There are a couple of minor spindle marks I can see but you don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to see that this LP has hardly been played in the intervening 45 years since it was in the shops. (I played it very carefully once to do my audio soundcheck)
As for the iconic Pepper gatefold cover, well this is also a treat. The Garrod & Lofthouse stereo cover is a beautiful example. It is a genuine 1969 original with double flipbacks visible on the inside, which incidentally have a splash or turquoise and red on them as later covers were printed slightly off centre so the colours from the outer gatefold overlapped onto the inner flipbacks. There is a great white undamaged spine. The corners look as good as the day it left the factory. There are just a few very minor, small creases in the laminate covering only really visible when held up to the light. This is a super EXCELLENT++ cover. One other thing to note. The print on the lyrics to “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ appears slightly blurred in the second column. This was obviously a production fault and although a fault it actually makes this LP more unique!
This LP is completed with a perfect green cut out insert and a plain white inner bag with no rips or tears.
Overall, this is a really fantastic copy and would make a great addition to any collection.
