Description

Might be of interest to someone who just wants to hear PEPPER with absolute top-level clarity. The Xmas-1970 Two-Box Emi copies are still impressive for audio providing you can find a really clean sparingly played example. And this copy doesn't disappoint. Matrix 1/2. They were heavy pressed [particularly the early ones], and are barely three years from those amazing '67 masters. The first Two-Box copies are easy to spot as the printers went back to the original 67/68 image, revised the format to stereo, and then forgot to revise the 'this is a mono recording' text - which still exhibits. They were housed in a gatefold cover with internal flipbacks. There's NO cut-outs I'm afraid, but we do have an original EMI advertising inner sleeve from the time.
Vinyl (Ex+) In lovely condition and has only seen light careful use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of very superficial trail marks - absolutely nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one deviation. Well, you gotta hand it to EMI they knew how to press a record in the sixties. For a complex multi-textured album like Pepper you really need a top class pressing to do it maximum justice. Add in a truly clean player, that's clean ALL the way through..and you end up with something truly mind-blowing. This is a perfect player all the way through with only one very brief deviation. ALL tracks play perfectly clean. Expect nothing more than a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. Even those fussy tracks like WI64, WIYWOY, "She's Leaving Home" plays really clean - much much better than you normally tend to find. Nearly all sixties copies will struggle to play these tracks properly clean. But this copy does it - with ease. Hear Pepper as it was intended with full resolution and clarity. I can't recommend it highly enough. The only one fractional deviation is a 1 sec pulse of low-level inteference in WI64 - sounds like a background rustle momentarily [absolutely no big deal]. If you can live with that one incredibly minor issue - the rest of the LP will knock your socks off!
Cover (Ex-) Lovely shiny and relatively uncreased front and back. Please note there's a slight wave in the front cover [nothing that obvious though]. The interior looks great with only very slight handling evidence in the top sectors. Edge wear is very light, except for a 1c.m. wear-through on the back panel's opening bottom edge. The spine is pretty much all intact with just light compression as is very common on this title. Overall the cover retains really good rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Lightly aged in places, but no splits.
