Description

An original 1st mono press of Pepper on UK Parlophone. Matrix 1/1. Matrix 2A/2H [sweet!]. I tend to opt for the earliest copies - they were often pressed heavy [like this example]. Now, this really is the best starting place to bag a truly great playing copy. They don't all look as good as this one or sound as good. The vinyl comes housed in an original mono gatefold cover with exposed flipbacks. But hey - take a look at the spine>>> this is the very 1st variant [pre full production copy] with a wide-spine . The original dark green cut-outs are present and the FOOL psyche inner is PRESENT.  So, we're 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) A lovely copy which has only seen relative light use for an original '67 Pepper. Under close inspection there are a few very light marks per side - but seemingly nothing heavy that would cause issue. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of slight deviations. Intros and inbetweens are really quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. Playing this LP is like a trip back to '67. The audio reproduction is superb. EMI at the height of their powers - along with the Beatles. It just plays with great vibrancy and a really quiet background. The early copies have very appealing lolloping base-notes - superb! To find out if you really have a super player go to those very demanding tracks. Many really nice looking copies easily trip up on SLH and WI64. SLH in particular is extremely difficult to find playing nice and clean on any copy. But this example is delivering a pretty clean rendition with only a few minor crackles occasionally [better than on the typical copy that surfaces]. It plays clean throughout... WYWY is brain-stormingly good! WI64.. just a couple of minor errant crackles - much better than you often find. There's more low-level detail on this copy than on 80% of 1st pressings. I picked out just a few minor crackles in a couple of spots per side [e.g. SLH ]. A couple of isolated ticks apparent in ADITL [no big deal]. For a wide-spine mono 1st this sort of standard is going to start attracting serious collector interest<<<<<
Cover (Ex-) In really nice condition and is looking very smart indeed. The front has good colour retention and just a few thumbnail creases at the opening, and one crease top right. The rear is marginally better with just a couple of very light thumbnails. The interior is clean as you like - beautiful. Minimal edge wear and the right panel openings are still sharp! Ok, so what does the all important wide-spine look like? Well, much better than you normally find. For starters -  it hasn't compressed and retains most of its original shape. The text is all fully legible. It does exhibit some very low-level discolouration [when you look up close]. Overall the cover still retains EXCELLENT rigidity. A very fine original example.
Inner (Ex-) Hardly any ageing. A one inch bottom edge split. Otherwise - real nice.
Cut-Outs (Ex) Beautiful colour retention. Minor crease top right.
