Description
In this auction:
· “THE EARLY BEATLES” by the Beatles
· This LP is Capitol Records ST 2309.
· This LP title was originally issued March 22, 1965.
· The Cover is a Capitol Records-marked cover.
· There is NO bar code on the cover.
· The cover is a cardboard-constructed cover with rear slick pasted over the front slick that wraps around the top and bottom.
· This LP is in MINT STILL SEALED CONDITION and still in its ORIGINAL SHRINK WRAP that has “breathe holes”. There is very slight wear on the corner at the base of the spine where the shrink wrap is worn through. There is a thin black line made with a marker on the rear shrink wrap near the spine.
· This LP has PURPLE CAPITOL LABELS which confirms that it was issued 1978-1983.
· So how do I know this, since the LP is still sealed? I recall maybe 11-13 years I won a couple of sealed Beatles LPs from Perry Cox, and he had stated that they had green Capitol labels (issued 1969-1971). The shrink wrap was split about 5-6 inches in the middle of the opening with 2 pieces of clear tape at the top and bottom of the cut to avoid complete splitting of the shrink wrap. I understand that this was done to spread the opening a bit, and with a small light, shine inside to see the label.
· Since this LP had a cardboard cover, I was curious about the labeI/issue. I followed the same procedure on this LP. I applied 2 pieces of clear tape about 3 inches from the top and bottom of the opening and slit the shrink wrap in between the 2 pieces of tape. A light shined inside showed that the vinyl has purple Capitol labels.
· Despite the 6 inches that the shrink wrap is split along the opening, it is STILL A MINT STILL SEALED LP, because 6 inches of the shrink wrap at the opening is still intact and prohibits removal of the vinyl. The 2 pieces of clear tape are still in place to prevent the shrink wrap from splitting the entire length of the opening.
· This LP is somewhat of a mystery. According to Cox and Daniels, Capitol Records stopped issuing this title in cardboard covers mid-way through the run of orange Capitol-label issues 1976-1978 when it switched to posterboard covers. Yet, this LP, in a cardboard cover with slicks pasted on, has purple Capitol labels. Therefore, this must be an earlier-produced cardboard cover that should have been used with orange label vinyl that was used a little later with purple label vinyl. So, this makes me believe that this LP with purple Capitol labels is an EARLY ISSUE (PROBABLY FROM 1978) because it has a cardboard, not posterboard, cover.
· An image of the label inside the cardboard cover is included.
It’s hard to find Beatles LPs still sealed/unopened. This one would make a nice addition to your vinyl collection!!!
