Description

An original and very 1st stereo press of THE WHITE ALBUM. Matrix 1/1/1/1. Note that all labels exhibit the 'Sold In The UK..' text which infers 1st issue. BUT the very earliest WA copies can be found WITHOUT the 'EMI Recording' text. And this copy excludes 'EMI Recording' on all four labels. This variation in combination with the stereo format probably makes it the hardest of all WA 1st pressings to find. One of the labels also exhibits the 'KT' tax stamp. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original top-loading 'stereo' cover. The number stamped is "0468891". Please note the number format and other cover attributes are perfectly in line with what you'd expect to find on a true 1st issue. We also have both original Apple black inner sleeves. PLEASE NOTE - there are NO photos or lyric/poster - these are ABSENT. What you have here is a hard to find and earliest stereo 1st press - <basically> the barebones of an impressive early copy. You can certainly track down the poster or photos be they originals or copies. We will ship in poly-lined inners to protect the LPs and the original black inners.
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) In lovely condition and looks much better than most early specimens that typically surface. Under close inspection there are a few light marks per side, the odd very superficial trail - but nothing heavy or likely to impinge on the audio. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAREXCELLENT level of playback with deviation in a couple of tracks per side. You gotta love the WHITE ALBUM...it's iconic and who else could have put this double album of oddities out in '68? But if you really care about the quality of the audio - it is well worth tracking down the early copies. The problem being that anything from '68, that plays good across four sides, is going to have to have been looked after carefully for in excess of fifty years! This is by no means an easy task. However, I'm pleased to report that this copy has definitely been looked after and is more than capable of delivering this iconic album at an impressive level. By and large it plays pretty clean and up around the NEAREXCELLENT level for large parts of the LP. We have a dip in performance in a couple of the lower key moments here and there... e.g. in Julia/Blackbird/Mother Nature/Long/No.9. These track do exhibit a bit of background and are not playing as clean as the other tracks manage to. But to be fair - these tracks still playback fine and are always by far the fussiest numbers on the WA [22 tracks in all]. Overall, I feel this is a very decent standard of playback - consistently. No sign of distortion or heavy use. You get to fully appreciate this masterpiece without being distracted. A copy to keep and treasure.
Cover (Ex-) In very respectable condition and not always an easy find at this level of preservation. Nearly all original covers will have aged by now. This example shows light ageing - but is still in impressive condition and has clearly been looked after. There's little to complain on the front - just a couple of slight scratches over toward the opening. The rear looks lovely with no issues and hardly any creasing. The  interior is very impressive - no issues at all. Edge wear is slight for a vintage white album and the openings are still sharpish. The spine is in excellent order - it has folded in the middle, but this is pretty standard for an original WA. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity and remains an enticing early specimen.
Inners (Ex) Very little creasing at all. And NO splits...this is quite unusual.
