Description
This is the original UK 1st pressing of the MONO album "The Beatles, aka The White album" by The Beatles on the Apple label catologue number PMC 7067 & 7068. As this album was being issued, Mono records were being phased out despite these being the preferred mix for many listeners including The Beatles. The Mono mix offers a fuller, richer and fuller sound than the Stereo, thus is the prefered mix for collectors. This particular copy is an early example and is housed in the top opening gatefold sleeve. The sleeve is numbered 0148426, which for a Beatles album of the time would have been snapped up in the first few days of issue.
The Gatefold sleeve has survived remarkably well and was kept in a smoke free home, thus has retained a white appearance in contrast to many that are very yellowed. Remarkably, the sleeve still has some creak when opened, indicating a well maintained and not overused item. There is light ring marking to the sleeve but this is light. The laminate remains firm and tight with only some cracking and lifting on the spine edge. There is no Stereo print on the back of the sleeve as with later issues. In all this sleeve is a great example that has survived exceptionally well for 43 years.
The labels on all four sides of the album are in great shape, showing only moderate spindle marks when tilted to the light. Labels do display "An EMI Recording" and each have "Sold In UK" text. KT tax code is embossed on Side one and Side 4 of the album. Both labels are free from writing or any sticker marks.
Matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1, XEX 709-1, Side 2, XEX 710-1. Side 3, XEX 711-1. Side 4, XEX 712-1
Vinyl retains a lovely sheen and although does have some marks, these are light and none sounding when played. Side one has a great shine with no noticable surface marks. Side two has a couple of light handling marks and one skate line across most of the width in a straight line. These lines do not sound and are light, not heavy. Side three has one hairline and a few light handling marks only. Side four has one light scuff line and a few light handling marks. Playback is great with no clicks, no jumps, no sticks, just clear Beatles music.
The original black inners have been well cared for as in most copies these are torn or just worn out. Both black inners still retain much of their original stiffness and have no splits and only one light pull in the centre of one. I do stress these are the original inners not reproductions that some sell to spoil the authenticity of such items.
All four pictures are included all of which are in Near Mint condition.
The original "Kiss" poster is in great shape having only one 2" split on one fold line.
Overall, this item has been well looked after and would grade at Excellent condition.
