Description
The Beatles White Album - Number 0418863
Origin
Purchased by me soon after it was released as I was a Beatles nut. All of my albums were put into plastic sleeves to protect them so the cover is in good condition. I never took my albums to any parties & I was careful when playing them so the labels are all in good condition as are the playing surfaces. The album & it's parts are original & are the same set of items I purchased all those years ago. This is the stereo recording PCS7067/8.
Condition
Looking at other albums that are graded on eBay I'd say the cover for mine is VG+ as it has no rips or tears & the spine is in very good shape - even the edges & corners have stood the test of time & it's still a very White Album..... you would be forgiven for thinking that this album is much younger than 56 years old.
The record labels & vinyl have been well looked after so I believe the labels are VG+ & the vinyl is VG to VG+.
The double-sided poster is probably VG.... no rips/tears & the folds are all intact. However, I recall sellotaping the folds to strengthen them in the early years. They weren't torn in anyway at the time & still aren't now though the sellotape has become discoloured.
The four large photos are Excellent as they've hardly ever been taken out of the cover.
The black inner sleeves are VG with a couple of small tears near the centre hole on one of them though still structurally sound.
Other Facts
Is it a 1st pressing? I've seem some doubtful claims in some album listings on eBay. I'm not certain but think it is. However, I can provide the following facts to help you draw your own conclusion.
First, I do know that I bought it very early after its release. The album number is 0418863....is this evidence of a first issue?
The details stamped on the vinyl are as follows....
- Side 1 - "YEX709 - 1" plus the separate lettering "1 RD"
- Side 2 - "YEX710 - 1" plus the separate lettering "2 GL (also what looks like a G over-stamped with an X)"
- Side 3 - "YEX711 - 1" plus the separate lettering "4 GG P"
- Side 4 - "YEX712 - 1" plus the separate lettering "6 PT"
“An E.M.I. Recording” text is only seen on the labels for sides 3 & 4.
Embossed lettering (The Beatles) is on the front cover.
"Stereo" is printed on the back cover in the right hand corner.
Cover "Printed & made in Great Britain by Garrod & Lofthouse International Ltd."
I hope the above is useful. Thanks for your interest.
