The Beatles mono collection 1982 original issue #448 of 1000 Very rare and Unplayed!
This 10 album set was released in 1982 by EMI. Only 1000 copies were manufactured and were imported to the US by the Dutch East India Company. A few un-numbered Red Boxes were released in the UK (the total number of these is apparently unknown).
Please do not confuse this with the red vinyl, un-numbered sets from Japan. Those are not the original issue.
These sets were the last Beatles Mono albums that were pressed from the original master stampers.
I owned a record shop in the '80's. I was given the opportunity to purchase one of these from a record distributor and jumped on it. I am the original owner.
The box shows some wear and tear due to sitting in my collection for 36 years. The original 1982 price sticker from my shop is still intact (I'm afraid to try to remove it.) I have, on occasion, opened and looked at it, but the disks have NEVER been played. I bought this as a collectable, not for listening.
Please judge the condition of the box from the photos. There are scuffs and some slight discoloration. There is a small cut in the right side of the box. (The box actually looks a lot better in person than it does in the photos.)
The jackets have a few small defects: The top of the 'Beatles for Sale' jacket has a slight crinkle. The bottom right corners of 'Please, Please Me' and 'With the Beatles' also have slight crinkles. There is a spot at the top of 'A Hard Days Night' were I stupidly put a sticker and then - 30 years later - tried to remove it. Please see the pictures for details. But, again, the disks themselves are completely Mint.
These rarely become available for sale on eBay (or anywhere else). From what I have seen over the years, typical sale prices have varied from around $700 for a well worn and well played set to more than $2000 for a pristine / like new set.
Of course, you folks will determine what it is worth today.
