Description
Who doesn't like the BIG Country theme? It's an all time classic. But can you find a genuine 1958 copy? That's the question. Firstly, what record label should you be looking for? Well, in 1958 United Artists did not have the ability to press records in the UK market - they had to utilise the Decca arm 'London Records'. So, you should be looking for a plum London label in the UK. Next problem is that the plum label was being used throughout the period 1958-1962. So, a plum copy might well be early - but this no guarantee you're dealing with a '58 copy. This design of cover was extremely flimsy and phased out during 1959 [you can understand why]. Also note the aesthetic of the cover [the image] - this is the original presentation from 1958 [not the countless re-hashings with cast members super-imposed on them!]. So, if you want a genuine '58 you need to find one of these early covers. The very 1st plum copies should mention "recording 1st published 1958". Matrix 1B/1B. And if you're lucky enough to find a 1st press - it should have early stamper numbers. This copy comes from the 1st mother [1-BI/1-BM]. This all ties in with a copy ready for the shop shelf in Xmas 1958. There's even the original Decca inner sleeve from the time. So, we're 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex) In superb condition - given the vintage "1958" one might be forgiven for saying 'remarkable'. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of slightest deviations. If you're a real big fan of theme - you could do a lot worse than an early plum copy. The audio will wipe the floor with any other copy - period. The acoustics are mind-blowingly-good. Excellent detail and very revealing. Super power in those explosive moments. All I could detect were some slightest 'presence' in a couple of the fussiest quietest moments. Perhaps one isolated tick per side. One would struggle to argue that any of this was even a remote issue. A total fab all round copy this one<<
Cover (Ex/Ex-) Given the vintage and fragility of this particular cover - I would argue condition is off-the-scale good. Lovely shiny and flat front with super colour retention. Usually these late 50's covers are heavily creased with laminate lift all over the place - this one is clean and totally belies its age. The rear is unbelievably clean and unaged. Barely a whiff of ageing. A couple of miniscule wear patches at top edge. A small "W" written in red ink top right. Otherwise pretty much perfect. Hardly any edge wear and the spine is 100% perfect. Highly impressive.
Inner (Vg-) Aged. Bag present. No splits. Rumpled.
