If you’re interested in the music that came out of San Francisco in the late 1960s you’ll probably have heard the legend of the Brain Police – the greatest unsigned and unrecorded of the original psychedelic bands. Contemporaries of The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, etc they went unheard until Rockadelic uncovered a privately pressed demo album, and recognising the importance of what they had, really went to town on this vinyl reissue – which is absolutely stunning in every respect. The cover is a tasteful matt black with a die cut revealing a shining foil-printed police badge on the primary insert, which provides a detailed history of the band. There are then 6 other inserts showing concert posters and letters illustrating the band’s history and the other illustrious bands they played alongside. And the music doesn’t disappoint either; a full range of west coast psychy styles, with great songs, blazing double lead guitar freakouts and blissed out laid back passages, pressed here on heavy virgin vinyl. This really is a stunner and it’s incredible to think this band wasn’t world famous at the time. We should be grateful that it eventually saw the light of day through this extremely rare and collectable reissue. Near mint throughout. Check my other listings for more originals and reissues!
