Description
An original '61 Crickets Debut on UK Coral. First released in 1958 on Vogue Carol - this example comes from 1961 on UK Coral. For reference that's still a couple of years before the Beatles arrive on the scene. Matrix 1B/1B - 1st cut. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original cover with flipbacks and without date. We also have a 'Take Good Care' inner sleeve from the time too.
Vinyl (Ex-) In very decent condition particularly given the vintage. A few light marks per side, a couple of superficial trails...- but nothing heavy or worrisome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAREXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations. Don't under estimate a grading like this - on a 60+ year old record by a very popular artist...this is impressive. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. What I particularly like on this copy is that the Holly vocal is very well preserved. So, it has definitely NOT been murdered like so many other copies. The audio is actually quite delicate for large parts - so many copies will leave you disappointed. This one is at a level where you can really start to appreciate a copy just a couple of years beyond those original masters. Side 1 is close on perfect predominantly....Make sure you track down a nice clean player - like this one - it is very very important. I did detect a couple of ticks in one spot, and a couple of isolated clicks later on side 2. But overall - pretty dang good!
Cover (Vg+) That grading might not seem that impressive - but this preservation on an early 60's flimsy cover is very hard to achieve. Pretty decent front without much light fade - crease top left. Expect some laminate lift in places and a few thumbnails. The rear has avoided the worst of the ageing process. Just a light touch on the flipbacks. Other than that nothing that unsightly on the rear. A few stress creases on the spine - but not bad at all.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. Bag present. No splits.
