Stunning quality and scarce copy of this incredible 1980 triple album from The Clash.

Originally released in December 1980 on CBS and distributed extensively worldwide, this ambitious release was criticised by many Clash fans for being a bit pretentious and a betrayal of their punk credentials. Following-up the relatively well-received London Calling was never going to be easy, but the band had thrown off the creative shackles and recorded so much material from such a wide range of genres, that a triple album was necessary to showcase the best of it.

In hindsight, there is some filler in there, but in my humble opinion, their best work is contained amongst those 36 tracks. All four band-members get a go at lead vocals somewhere along the line and some very talented guests appear too.

It may be an urban myth, but it's said that the band forewent royalties in order to get CBS to agree to a £4.99 RRP.

Reggae, dub, rap, funk, gospel, jazz and good old rock and roll. All wrapped up in a stylish package complete with a newspaper style lyric sheet. (And a political education too for anyone who bothered to look into the Nicaraguan situation)

Remind yourself why you love this band by pulling out side 3 and cueing-up track 5, "If Music Could Talk". Pour yourself a glass of something strong, turn out the lights, turn up the volume and just relish the drum/piano/sax that oozes from the speakers and try to follow Strummer's jazz notes coming from either channel.

But that's just my choice - I'm sure everyone has their favourites!

Vinyl: Ex - Superb quality album set. All three discs are in great shape with only the lightest of superficial hairline surface marks. Play-tested and reproduction is awesome (although I am biased!). All six sides retain a glorious lustre and sheen. The labels are custom-designed large red side-indicator numerals on black backgrounds with white label-text. All six labels are immaculate with only light evidence of spindle-wear.

Sleeve: VG++ Great condition sleeve. Single pocket stiff card sleeve with semi-gloss finish, sporting a stylish band shot in black and white against a brick wall backdrop. Title and band name in red font at top and bottom edges. Rear cover contains track-listing in black text on plain red background. Credits appear in small black print on a white strip at the bottom edge. Structurally, the sleeve is intact with no splits tears or creases. There's some light corner-wear and a little ring-wear evident. This is quite common, with three albums housed in a single pocket. The edges are still nice and straight, the spine is solid with spine-text entirely legible and un-damaged. All seams remain securely stuck down.

The package also includes the "Armagideon Times No 3" a tri-fold newspaper style lyrics sheet with illustrations by famous satirical/political cartoonist, Steve Bell. This insert is in great un-damaged condition.

All in all, it's a fantastic example of a superb Clash album. 36 years old but still sounds fresh and relevant. Genuine collectors item.
