Description

Signed limited first edition album from The Concert of the Century at Carnegie Hall, one of 1000 copies featuring mounted photographs of Leonard Bernstein, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Vladimir Horowitz, Yehudi Menuhin, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Isaac Stern, each signed on the mount, accompanied by two original LPs containing the complete concert.

A unique, rare piece of history - an award-winning, historic 2xLP and a complete set of signed photographs of some of the most important figures in 20th Century classical music. Original booklet with signed photographs is fully intact with some small spotting on some pages, not the mounted photographs or signatures. Both LPs look in great condition. Does not include leather folio housing.

"A magnificent production, issued to commemorate the famous concert-celebration held by the Carnegie Hall Society on Tuesday, May 18, 1976, in honor of the 85th anniversary of Carnegie Hall and the establishment of its National Endowment Fund.

"Organized by Isaac Stern to help revitalize Carnegie Hall and to commemorate its 85th anniversary, the so-called “Concert of the Century” brought together the most talented musicians from around the world for an extended performance. Conducted by Lyndon Woodside and Leonard Bernstein, Vladimir Horowitz, Isaac Stern, Mstislav Rostropovich, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Leonard Bernstein, and Yehudi Menuhin played a rich and complex program alongside members of the New York Philharmonic and The Oratorio Society. The concert featured pieces by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Schumann, J.S. Bach, and Handel, carefully chosen to highlight the virtuosity of the soloists. The following year, the widely acclaimed recording of the concert won the Grammy for Best Classical Album. The album included in this limited edition set features each soloist’s short biography, large mounted photograph, and signature; a program of the concert; a libretto for Schumann’s “Dichterliebe”; and an essay on the history of Carnegie Hall and its National Endowment Fund. Also included are two record albums of the concert." - Bauman Rare Books
