All items I sell are test played first on a Project Debut Turntable equipped with an Ortofon Stylus 5.

I grade the record/vinyl itself primarily by listening to it and not by what it looks like.

This is because I believe records are to be listened to and enjoyed, not looked at ! 

In my opinion listening to the records is the only way you can grade them correctly.From experience I know that vinyl can look excellent but then not play so well.Conversely,vinyl can look marked but then play quite excellently.

As a result, I tend to place more of an emphasis in my grading on the sound of the record/vinyl rather than on it's visual aspects,ie surface marks,scratches.Please bear this is mind when bidding.I am quite happy to answer questions on the visual appearance of the record/vinyl itself if required.

A Few Words About Record Grading

I try to grade the records I sell by using The Record Collector's Grading System in The Rare Record Price Guide (RRPG).

I grade them conservatively so as to avoid any customer dissatisfaction.

Where records appear to fall some where in between the major grading categories,I have chosen to add the modifiers Plus and Minus.Therefore a record which generally has excellent sound quality but occasionally only very good sound quality would be graded Excellent Minus.

Note: I never use the Mint category unless the record is brand new,unplayed or still sealed ! Most records I sell will therefore fall some where in between the Excellent and Very Good categories.

However,record grading is not an exact science as individuals are subjective and may have different opinions for example as to what constitutes "very little lessening in sound quality" ,or "no major deterioration in sound quality" (RRPG grading guidelines for Excellent and Very Good quality).

I try very hard to give an accurate description of the visual and aural quality of the records on offer but should my opinion conflict with that of a buyer I offer a "no quibble return policy".

 RRPG Gradings *

Mint : The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet,booklet or poster are in perfect condition.Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint. 

Excellent : The record shows some signs of having been played,but there is very little lessening in sound quality.The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

Very Good : The record has obviously been played many times,but displays no major deterioration in sound quality,despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch.Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items,without major defects,is acceptable.

Good : The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated,perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches.The cover and contents suffer from folding,scuffing of the edges,spine splits,discoloration,etc.

* Note Plus and Minus modifiers may be used where I have determined that the sound quality of the record falls some where in between two catergories.
