Description
The Doors on Elektra 74007. Stereo original copy, still (partly) sealed. This record came to me fully sealed, which presented a problem: Because Elektra used the exact same cover for this LP from the late 60s into the 80s, there was no way to tell if this was a rare and valuable first issue, or a far less rare and valuable later issue. So I opened the seam half way, to see what the inner sleeve looked like. It is indeed the original gold and white sleeve, with the "Big E" repeated in rows across it. This sleeve was only used with the old, gold, Big E label Elektra records, and makes it a virtual certainty that the record inside it is the first issue label from the late '60s. (When Elektra changed to the red Big E, and then to the Butterfly label, they used different inner sleeves). So the opening edge of this package remains 50% sealed, and the disk remains untouchable inside it, as it has been for about 45 years now. The cover is excellent, with a little ring wear to the shrink wrap that may or may not be present on the cardboard itself. There are two small tears in the shrink wrap on the front, both near the bottom, and where the tears have revealed the cover, there are two small tears in the cover slick itself, one not much bigger than the head of a pin, the other about twice that size. Use the Zoom function on the picture to get a good look at them. At the bottom left corner, there's a small bump, a tiny tear in the shrink wrap, and what looks like a very small strip of the cover missing, though I'm guessing it's something that happened at the factory, rather than subsequently. Top seam has a couple of tiny tears in the shrink wrap with two very small lines--about 1/16-inch by 1/8-inch--where the paper is missing. Couple of small, light indentations along the bottom seam, and a very tiny wear spot. Seams are nice and tight, text properly aligned and clear on the lightly aged spine. Overall, the cover is very nice. A rare opportunity to get a true original pressing of this classic still sealed.
GRADING
M- A flawless or nearly flawless record that appears to have seen little or no play.
VG+ Full gloss, some light marks. A very, very attractive record that has seen limited play and has been well cared for.
VG More marks and scratches, will have some surface noise, but still a playable record. Scratches may be fairly numerous, but will be light.
VG- Lots of marks and scratches but no gouges or major problems.
G+ and G Heavy wear and marks, plays through okay.
