The album was compiled from live performances recorded in cities throughout the United States between August 1969 and June 1970.
The Doors' producer and long-time collaborator Paul A. Rothchild claimed to have painstakingly edited the album from many different shows to create one cohesive concert. According to Rothchild, the best part of a song from one performance may have been spliced together with another part of the same song from another performance, in an attempt to create "the ultimate concert". Rothchild said, "I couldn't get complete takes of a lot of songs, so sometimes I'd cut from Detroit to Philadelphia in mid-song. There must be 2,000 edits on that album." However, most of the tracks were taken from the Doors' performances at the Felt Forum in New York City on January 17 and 18, 1970.

Classic Red Elektra labels, clean, no writing. Both vinyl, all four sides retain a nice sheen, play clean – no pips, pops or crackle – audio graded EX.
Sleeve: Laminated gatefold sleeve. Fully proud spine, no splits, tears or writing, all edges straight – light opening edge rub only – no ringwear. No writing, spits, sticker residue or tears. Family owned since new and kept in a plastic protective gatefold sleeve EX-/EX
Label: Classic Red Elektra labels with Warner logo, clean no writing or sticker residue etc. Light use-age, nice condition graded EX (see photos)
Vinyl: Both vinyls, all four sides retain a nice sheen with no nasty marks. Closer inspection under bright light shows a few (very, very few) feint surface lines and some wispy sleeve traces – all mostly only visible under light - nothing feelable and nothing that affects play graded EX-/EX
Audio: Plays through with no major problems, nice clear sound. No pips, pops, skips, jumps or distortion. Audio graded EX (played on a Project carbon - blue 2M Ortofon).

I have been a collector for 47+ years buying and selling records over the years to feed my changing music habits. The few records I sell are either the results of upgrades or duplicates or a bit of thinning every now and again. MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. ….
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing…..
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. …
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
