Description

An original Mono 2nd issue on UK Elektra from 1968. Matrix A1/B1 - very 1st cut. This heavy-set mono pressing comes only a matter of months after those 1st masters from late-67. By this point they'd corrected the goof-up typos on the original labels and included that new 'Doors' logo on the labels. The vinyl comes housed in an original fully laminated 1st issue mono cover. Also included is the original generic white inner sleeve with 'patent applied for' text. Sorry, there's no official bespoke lyric inner.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) Despite having seen a moderate level of use this LP is still in very rude health. Yes, there's a good bit of light marking both sides, and one semi-feelable mark in 'People Are Strange' - but truly nothing to worry about. If you're the sort of buyer who finds that off-putting perhaps best leave this one alone. But if you're prepared to look beyond those markings this heavy mono pressing is well capable of delivering some fantastic audio straight outta '67. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quite and the audio comes across with great clarity. Not perfectly quiet, but by and large this is a clean and impressive player. These early mono copies are clearly the de facto way of taking in this amazing band. When the Doors were on song - they were the best act around. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations. We're detecting a touch of light static in a couple of spots per side [e.g. Can't See Your Face]. Nothing invasive or persistent it just won't play quite as clean as the rest of the LP in the odd spot. But the quiet sections do play really nice and quiet and that certainly helps the 'mood and ambience' of this title. The deviations are two clicks midway through 'People Are Strange' and a couple of ticks midway through 'When the Music's Over' [Absolutely no Big Deal]. Difficult not to fall in love with a copy like this...Sweeeet! I really can't imagine the later stereo reissues holding a candle to an original mono copy like this..
Cover (Ex) Well, it's from 1967 and it is looking pretty darn tidy. That laminate is in really top condition and has perfectly preserved the front and back. A couple of creases top right on the front, and a couple of thumbnail creases at the opening - but very very tidy looking. The rear is looking very flat with just a couple of creases bottom left. Edge wear is extremely minor and the openings are still sharpish. The spine is 100% intact - very very nice! Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) No splits. Ageing and wear toward the opening.
