The 1st Monarch Los Angeles pressing of The Doors Strange Days on its own is very rare but finding it in such a beautiful condition is practically impossible. This copy is the one to keep in your collection for a long time. Just like the other 1st pressing copies of this album the Mono cover contains the Monophonic catalog number EKL-4014 on the front and back but has a misprint indicating the Stereo catalog number on the spine. Original 1st print Monarch Los Angeles gold Elektra Records labels with a 2⅞” pressing ring, bold typeface and the Mono EKL-4014 catalog number. The trail-off vinyl contains all of the identifiers of a Monarch pressing, including a "MR" stamped inside a circle on both sides. The full matrix numbers are: Side 1 - EKL 4014A (MON) MR in Circle Delta 11089 Ray Hagerty's Signature; EKL 4014B (MON) MR in Circle Delta 11089-X Ray Hagerty's Signature. The release of The Doors coincided with the change in the Elektra Records office's address. Very early 1st pressings of this album were equipped with an inner sleeve containing Elektra's old "51 West 51st Street" address in New York, before the company changed it to the new "1855 Broadway" address. This copy comes with an inner sleeve containing Elektra's old address. The change involved not only the company's address in New York but also the one in London, UK. The new inner sleeves read "2 Dean Street" while the old ones had the "7 Poland Street" address as seen on the inner sleeve that comes with this album. This is a completely unique copy. Besides it being a very rare Monarch, LA pressing, this copy comes with an original "ELEKTRA'68" fold-out 5-panel catalog, which contains the first two “The Doors” releases and a photo of the band.

The stunning cover is in Near Mint condition. The original "Strange Days" inner sleeve is in Near Mint condition, only having some light chipping along the top edge, but without having any splits or tears. I grade the heavyweight vinyl as somewhere between strong Very Good Plus and Excellent Minus. It retains its great factory gloss only having some light non-feelable surface scuffs from the inner sleeve. The very clean labels are in great Near Mint condition and don't have any spindle marks or scuffs. The vinyl sounds great, only having some very light occasional background noise, which becomes more evident during the quiet passages and in between the songs, and is most likely just static and will get reduced or go away completely if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI machine.
