Very rare true 1st Mono US pressing copy of The Doors' 3rd studio album “Waiting For The Sun”. This masterpiece released on July 3, 1968 was the band’s first and only number 1 album, spawning their 2nd US number 1 single, “Hello, I Love You”. The currently listed copy is fantastic not only because it’s practically in unplayed condition but also because, it’s the example of the true very early 1st US pressing. The runout grooves contain not only the very 1st -A1 / -A1 matrix numbers but also the 1st mother stampers with the “A” prefix: A3 / AA3. Original 1st print UNIPAK design gatefold cover with the "UNIPAK - PAT. PENDING" text on the spine inside the gatefold. One side of the gatefold opens while the other one is a single-ply cardboard. This 1st issue features a very rare original "ELEKTRA'68" fold-out 5 panel double-sided color promotional catalog with a photo of The Doors and the release information about the band’s first two albums, Self-Titled and "Strange Days, that came out before "Waiting For The Sun". The album comes with an original 1st print Elektra Records mustard / gold inner sleeve with a large "E" Elektra logo. Original mustard / gold Elektra Records labels with a large "E" logo, 2.75" diameter pressing ring and Mono catalog number EKL 4024. True 1st pressing vinyl pressed at Columbia Records, Pitman, NJ plant as identified by the "P" machine stamp in the runout groove on both sides. The trail-off vinyl also contains the small "o" stamp as this copy was mastered by Customatrix, a subsidiary of Columbia Records, which produced masters, mothers and stampers for all of the regional pressing plants that were part of Columbia's North American operation. Both sides of the vinyl contain the true 1st -1A / --1A matrix numbers along with the early A3 / AA3 mother stampers: SIDE 1 - o EKL 4024A-1A P A3 / SIDE 2 - o EKL 4024 B-1A P AA3. As a bonus to this very early 1st issue with the “Elektra ‘68” catalog, we’ve included a very rare original late 60s / early 70s "ELEKTRA RECORDS" advert from the “BILLBOARD” magazine with a Shakespeare epigraph and a large red ELEKTRA logo.

The cover is in Excellent condition. It's very clean and doesn't have any splits or writing. The front cover has two light barely noticeable creases at the top and the back cover has some very light creasing at the top right corner. The spine contains a fully readable text, which is very rare for the covers of this issue, only having some very light scuffing. The interior gatefold is in Excellent condition with the left panel being very clean without any soiling. The original Elektra Records inner sleeve, the "Elektra'68" catalog and the "Billboard" magazine advert are in Near Mint condition. The sparkling vinyl looks to be unplayed as it doesn't have any marks or scuffs and has a mirror-like surface. This is the best record of this issue that we've ever come across with. The clean labels are in Near Mint Minus condition.
