Description
Jackie Wilson was an American rhythm & blues/soul singer who was born in Michigan in 1934. He came from a humble and troubled background but both his parents were musical. His first singing was in the choir with his mother. He sang in various groups before going solo in 1957. A mentor was the legendary Clyde McPhatter.
His first release in the UK was the great number "Reet Petite" which went to no 6 in the UK charts late in 1957 and unbelievably reached No 1 when re-released 29 years later after his death in 1984. He had been seriously ill since 1975 when he suffered a severe heart attack after a show. He was a superb and exciting performer known as Mr. Excitement.
This Extended play record of 4 tracks was released in 1959 at the height of his worldwide fame. None of the numbers were chart hits in the UK although "I'll be Satisfied" was very well played. The other tracks are "Never go Away", "Talk that Talk" and "Only you, Only me" and capture the exciting rhythm and blues and soul style of Jackie Wilson.
The record is in good condition and all tracks play well and other than some very minor damage to the sleeve (as shown in photos) it is in good condition. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a pretty rare record of a big star from the 1950s.
