From the Web Site:
Stone Roses front man Ian Brown and his impressive 8-piece will be headlining the first ever offering of great live performances on Thursday 29th in Lorne. Talked up as the last great maverick of British rock, he is an icon for a generation, launched into a solo career following the burn out of his band. He is the man who launched a thousand laid-back walks and countless haircuts. He has wandered a million miles away from his past but is cool enough to get away with revisiting it by recently adding Stone Roses classics to his live set.
Dragging themselves out of the backwoods of Lake Bolac in rural Victoria, The Exploders are a band of conviction. With hints of the Kinks, Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Sunnyboys, this rather hirsute three piece have also recently laid down their primitive dirty rock onto their debut self titled album. With catchy riffs, raw energy and pure sexy rock ‘n roll, these young up and comers will be ones to watch.
If you could imagine a yearbook for 2005's School of Rock, The Presets would stand out like a jet black ink blot on the page. Defying categorization with their sweat-drenched live shows, Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes share a skewed, singular vision that reassembles pop music into a streamlined, sexy, scary creature. Their music is a bi-product of 20 years of over consumption. TV ads and school hymns, World Series cricket chants and John Coltrane, gamelan orchestras and glass players, pounding amyl house and sci-fi soundtracks.
Channeling legendary bluesmen like Robert Johnson and Blind Willie McTell, he wears natty threads, sings catchy tunes and mutters to himself like a madman at the crossroads of heaven and hell. The idiosyncratic C.W. Stoneking is a true entertainer who relies on musicianship, stagecraft and performance to invoke the spirit of the 1920’s deep south in his original hokum style.
Melbourne’s Diafrix are truly a rare blend. Combine two parts hip hop, one part soul, add a twist of dancehall with vocals in English, French and Swahili, and you are well on the way. After recently scoring both a place on the Big Day Out line up and being named Triple J’s Next Crop artist, Diafrix have been building a solid live reputation for the last two years and are set to cement that with their place on the Falls Festival bill this year!
