Rarity: this record is extremely rare and based on my twenty-six years knowledge of following OCS, my personal view is that this release received a pressing of about 250 - 500 units. There were only sold locally in the Birmingham UK region, and the single did not chart in the UK national charts. This is a critical release to own, and by far the best of the ‘pre-OCS’ releases by members! Most critically, this features three quarters of what would be the classic OCS line 1990 – 2003, including Simon Fowler, Oscar Harrison and Damon Minchella. Simon sings on all tracks and the eagle-eyed will spot that the third track ‘My Brother Sarah’ was recycled and re-recorded for the 1992 Fontana releases. It is extremely hard to find this record in anything like playable condition – normally the covers of soft card are completely wrecked and the vinyl’s not much better…well available here is your final upgrade copy of a super rare related OCS release! For clarity, this release was never released in any other format.
Condition: this is simply superb condition single!! This is simply the best condition copy I have ever owned of this release over twenty-five years of collecting, and has been in my ‘keeper box’ for around fifteen years. I have taken the vast majority of pictures under harsh fluorescent lighting, and they are simply stunning! The impossibly delicate outer sleeve has a deep gloss, with minimal if any wear points. I have highlighted a very light crease on the front panel around the ‘S’ in ‘songs’ near the bottom edge of the cover, but this is marginal in impact. Only the tiniest wear points on the cover corners, no splits, tears, rips or rubbing superb!! I am grading this cover at excellent plus (+) condition without question, and the best I have ever seen. The inner sleeve is a delicate unlined thin paper sleeve, and is in superb condition with only a mild age ‘yellowing’ and minimal creasing, and the inner is graded as excellent plus (+) condition and a lovely copy of a generic inner. The vinyl is stunning! Look at these pictures under unforgiving fluorescent lighting! I have no hesitation in grading this vinyl copy as mint minus (-) condition it is simply that good! When I purchased this copy, it had been un-played, and was so amazed at the condition that I had to play it the time, and since then has been played randomly 2-3 times on my Rega deck. Sonic quality is excellent and in line with visual appearance.
In summary, as near to a museum copy of what is a super rare and largely forgotten about earliest incarnation of three quarters of OCS! In less than a year they would join up with Steve Craddock, form OCS and record for local label !Phffft, and the rest as they say is history!
