The History of the House Sound of Chicago ...from the very beginning... 12 LP/120-track limited edition box set with collectors booklet (1989)

Widely held to be the best compilation charting the early development of house, this set is one to treasure, especially on vinyl. One in this condition doesn't crop up very often – all LPs are in great condition, as is the box and the booklet. There is no damage to speak of as it has been looked after with great care. You can see from the picture that there is some slight discoloration on the box, but that is an unavoidable consequence of its age and the material it's made from; it hasn't had anything spilled on it or anything like that.

This was given to me about 10 years ago by a family friend who'd had it from new. When I got it, it looked like it had hardly been played. I played one or two of the LPs carefully before putting the whole box away in the cupboard until now, so the whole thing is still pretty fresh. Unless you can find one that has been wrapped in plastic from new and never played, this is probably about as good as it gets.

The collectors booklet is an absolute gem and features some brilliant pictures and quotes from artists and DJs of the 80s Chicago House scene. The intro is written by Brian Carter of BCM records.
