Description
The Idle Race "The Birthday Party"
This is an original US vinyl pressing on Liberty LST-7603 from 1969. This was the only US album by The Idle Race. The music is English pop/Psych, with great melodies, whimsical lyrics, and nice harmonies. Unfortunately they never had any hits. ( 'Here We Go Round The Lemon Tree' might have been a hit, but the version by The Move eclipsed it)
The Idle Race came from Birmingham, England. The band is Jeff Lynne, Dave Pritchard, Greg Masters, and Roger Spencer. Jeff Lynne later joined The Move and then The Electric Light Orchestra.
Did you notice that in the Traveling Wilbury song : 'Cool Dry Place', Tom Petty sings : 'I paid my first subscription then I joined the Idle Race'.
Overall Condition is : Cover is M / Record is M-
The cover is Mint with no ring wear, no writing , and no seam splits. It's still in the original shrink wrap ( there is a 3 inch tear in the shrink wrap on the back cover at top left) The vinyl looks near mint and it plays near mint. There are a few very slight paper scuffs on side two, that can not be heard. The labels are perfect with no spindle marks. The record comes in a Liberty Records inner sleeve.
The songs are : The Skeleton And The Roundabout, Happy Birthday, The Birthday, I Like My Toys, The Morning Sunshine, Follow Me Follow, Sitting In My Tree, On With The Show, Lucky Man, Mrs Ward, Pie In The Sky, The Lady Who Said She Could Fly, and The End Of The Road.
About Me :
I started collecting records in 1966. I started selling in Goldmine in 1985. I now sell records at all Northwest record conventions : Portland, Seattle, Tacoma, Eugene, Grants Pass, and Canby. And at Crossroads Music in Portland, Oregon. My records are from a no smoking and no pets home.
Packaging :
I take great care on every package and I do each one personally. I will package this record between two pieces of hand cut cardboard. One sheet is 5/8 inch thick triple strength industrial cardboard. The other sheet is 1/4 inch double strength cardboard. Together they are very strong and unbendable. ( Even the postmen comment on how strong this cardboard is ! ) I always remove the record from the cover and seal them in a clear plastic album sleeve. The package will be marked in red : "Fragile Record" on both sides.
