Original very early 1st US pressing of The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s 2nd studio album “Axis: Bold as Love” released by Reprise Records on December 1st, 1967. The currently listed copy contains the 1st Reprise Records design labels which were used from the moment the company was founded in 1961 until mid-1968. Pink, gold and green tri-color labels contain a black print, a steamboat drawing, “Reprise” to the right and the “RS 6281” catalog number. Original 1st print thick gatefold cover still remains in the original factory shrink wrap with the front cover containing an incredibly rare song title hype sticker at the bottom left corner underneath the shrink wrap. The 5” x 1½” sticker contains a misprint in the form of an incorrect song order, which is different from the one indicated on the album. If you slightly spread the edges of the mouth then you’ll see that the inner gatefold is printed on glossy black paper as oppose to matte paper which was used on the later pressings. The vinyl was mastered by Customatrix, a subsidiary of Columbia Records, as identified by the small “o” symbol in the runout grooves on both sides. The full matrix numbers of this true 1st  pressing are as follows: Side 1 -  30725 RS-6281-A 1-B o A8 2 1; Side 2 - 30726 RS-6281-B 1-A o A1 2. The album comes with the original Reprise Records inner sleeve with the adverts for the other Reprise releases.

 ★

The cover remaining in the original fully intact shrink wrap is in outstanding Near Mint condition, practically Mint Minus. We grade the vinyl as Excellent for Side 1 and somewhere between Excellent Plus and Near Mint Minus for Side 2. It retains its beautiful shiny factory lacquer only having a few very light non-feelable surface hairlines as well as very light scuffs from the original inner sleeve which is in Near Mint condition without having any splits or tears. The tri-tone labels are very clean and are in Near Mint condition, practically Mint Minus without having any scuffs, wear or spindle marks. The vinyl sounds amazing with just some very light occasional static which most likely will go away if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
