For sale is a Original 1st Edition vinyl release of Satan Is Real by The Louvin Brothers (Capitol, T-1277).


This amazing album by American country music duo The Louvin Brothers was released in 1959. This is the first edition release of this compelling album.

While reviewers have generally commented on the distinctive album cover, they have also highly praised the song writing and performances. This is not simply another religious album from the 1950s, it is an amazing contribution to fire and brimstone gospel with dark and dramatic undertones that managed to assert itself as the Louvin's most critically acclaimed efforts!!


A note on the album's cover:

The fiery setting pictured on the cover of this album was conceived and built by the Louvin Brothers themselves, using chiefly rocks, scrap rubber, and lots of imagination. The scene became a little too realistic, though, when Ira and Charlie were very nearly burned while actually directing the photography for this dramatic cover photo.


 


Disc is VG- with noticeable play wear including needle marks and some scuffing. Play has crackle on outer tracks which is noticeable but not overwhelming – quiets down on inner tracks on side 1 becoming VG+ but on side 2 the crackle only slightly subsides becoming VG.

Jacket is Good + for the main reason that it shows noticeable edge wear to the point that the front and back cover barely held together. Despite the fragile state of the edges (see pictures for more details) the covers are in pretty amazing condition! The front has a spot on the upper right corner where a sticker was removed, and it shows some creasing and light ring wear - definitely suitable for framing!! The back cover is pretty well preserved. Many records of this era end up with edges like this unless they have been very well stored away.
