Instituted in fun, The Luther-Annes have been dashing through the church discovering humor in almost every area of congregational activity. Born of an idea to help Church members see themselves in a not-so-serious vein, and nurtured in the hope that we can always afford to share laughter along with work and worship, The Luther-Annes provide a uniquely different program.

Members of St. James Lutheran Church, Pitman, N. J., The Rev. C. Wilfred Steffy, Pastor, The Luther-Annes composer, arranger and writer, is Mrs. Joyce Frueh. Mrs. Mary Steffy and Mrs. Rachel Wascher complete the trio, with Mrs. Shirley Halvorson and Mrs. Mary Jo Hyssong as piano accompanists.

It is the wish of all the Luther-Annes that they will bring to each listener a little merriment and relaxation, and if some of the situations about which they sing strike a familiar chord, they will have achieved success.

Lyrics on all below by Joyce M. Frueh

DASHING THRU THE CHURCH
Tune — "Jingle Bells"

Dashing through the church, racing down the hall,
See the little tots, they really have a ball.
Every teacher knows, kids must have their fling,
But why, oh why, in Sunday School, must they fling everything.
Sunday School, Sunday School, that's the place to be
Send your kiddies each and all, we're babysitting — free!
Sunday School, Sunday School, every kid's a pest.
And if I weren't a Lutheran, I'd be an athiest!

CRADLE ROLL FIGHT SONG
Tune — "Mr. Touchdown U.S.A."

We want to fill that Cradle Roll, folks.
We want to fill it to the brim.
Spread the word around the earth, we're givin' trophies for multiple birth!
The cradle roll is lookin' skimpy, we've got no time to delay.
Come on perpetuate, ladies let's cooperate, fill the Cradle Roll today!

BENEVOLENCE
Tune — "I'm Called Little Buttercup"

They call it Benevolence, Lutheran Benevolence,
I give a quarter a week.
My basic philosophy is generosity, I think my giving's unique.
I've given apparel to put in the barrel, I've given my watch that won't wind. And shoes that aren't mated, I freely donated, I feel philanthropic and kind. I've always been speedy to help with the needy, I'm willing to spare no expense. Since help is essential, I'm so penitential, next year I may give thirty cents. And so to Benevolence, Lutheran Benevolence, I will continue to give.
My husband's old undershirts, all my old miniskirts,
How I love helping folks live!

UP IN  THE PULPIT
Tune — "Up On The Housetop"

Up in the pulpit, good and wise, hear our Pastor Sermonize
Hark to the message that he gives — "Man must change in the way he lives!"
Ho, ho, ho who wants to know
We must change, oh what a blow.
Up in the pulpit, hear him shout—"Prayin' is in, and sinnin's out!"
Up in the pulpit, loud and clear, Pastor's bendin' every ear.
"Grow in knowledge and grow in grace. Grow in love for the human race."
Ho, ho, ho who wants to know
I, for one, don't want to grow,
Up in the pulpit, I can see,
All of his sermons are aimed at me!

THE TRACT RACK
Tune — "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho"

Pastor put the pamphlets in the tract rack, tract rack, tract rack.
Pastor put the pamphlets in the tract rack so the people could be informed.
You can read about work in Stewardship
Or the missions in Timbuktu
You can learn about pagan practices by the indians in Peru
Get yourself a pamphlet from the tract rack, tract rack, tract rack.
Get yourself a pamphlet from the tract rack if you want to be in the swing.

ECUMENISM
Tune — "Loch Lomond"

In Yon Bonnie Church things are getting mixed up
And I vow that for years I have sensed it
This new Ecumenism has me all confused, 'cause
I ain't sure I'm for or against it.
Oh, you take the high church, and I'll take the low church
And watch how they strive to unite us.
And 'tho we may struggle to keep our status quo
I'm afraid they'll achieve it despite us.

Be wary of change, be decisive and firm
Ecumenism looms to enfold you.
Take heed to my warning, 'cause if it does succeed,
I'll be there to remind you "I told you!"
And so when the high church is joined with the low church,
And we're all one single and lone church,
I'll write some new theses and tack 'em to the door,
And doggoned if I won't start my own church!

THE PASTOR'S SCHEDULE
Tune — "Funiculi Funicula"

The schedule of a pastor is a beauty, his days are free to flit and flee.
They claim there's never time for every duty, and salary is low they plea.
But think of all the money they are saving, on rent alone and gas and phone.
We cannot understand their constant craving to own a home and never roam.
Monday's Men's Club, Tuesday Council meets.
Wednesday's choir, Thursday — friends to greet.
There's Friday's play, then Saturday brings confirmation class to teach.
And Sunday they can rest because they only have to preach!
