The MC5, Kick Out The Jams, US Elektra EKS-74042, 1968

These guys were playing "metal" a whole decade before the genre called "metal" even existed, and the performance in this live album sounds just as fresh and compelling as it did almost 50 years ago. This is the "no 'motherfuckers'" version of this hard rock classic, but make no mistake, this is still one totally badass record.

The cover is in solid VG+ condition with almost no surface wear (see scans of front and back). There are no disfiguring bends or obvious signs of mishandling, and only two small hairline creases on the front adjacent to the spine which are only visible in reflected light. The edges are intact and have almost no wear to speak of. The inner sleeve has intact edges, but there has been a bit of chipping on the front and back edges at the opening at the top. On the front, the upper right corner has a slight snub that is about 1cm. wide, but again, it is only obvious in reflected light. Inside the gatefold, it looks like there was a couple of parallel lines of glue that got onto the surface during the manufacturing process (see photo), and there are also little dots of what appears to be the same material that appear here and there on the left side. Not obvious, though. I've owned this record for 30+ years, and I never noticed them before I did my close visual inspection just a few minutes ago.

The vinyl also visually inspects a strong VG+ with no obvious blemishes. The labels are clean, and there is only one light spindle mark on the label of Side B.

The best part, though, is that playback is outstanding. I am confident this disc will please a discriminating audiophile collector.
