“The Magnificent Thad Jones” Blue Note BLP 1527.
This is the original Van Gelder-stamped (“RVG” by hand), deep-groove, flat rim mono pressing of Thad Jones’ “The Magnificent Thad Jones” on the 767 Lexington Ave NYC labels of Blue Note BLP 1527.
Get a taste of that original Blue Note first pressing magic. No reissue will EVER sound as good or retain its value like an original Blue Note.
Consistent low-level surface noise is audible on both sides, but as with all powerfully-recorded Blue Note first pressings, it does not deter from the enjoyment of the music. NO groove-wear. This is an early and rare, pre-1958 Flat Rim disc. There is one-inch long scratch on track 2, side 2, that is briefly audible. The LP has good gloss, no warps, no skips. The frame cover is in very good condition, good gloss, no seam splits, and only one barely wrinkled corner. Back cover clean. Personnel includes Thad Jones, Billy Mitchell, Kenny Burrell, Barry Harris, Percy Heath and Max Roach.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers.
