Description

Expanded 2LP black vinyl reissue of The Olivia Tremor Control’s 1996 Elephant 6 classic, Music From the Unrealized Film Script: Dusk at Cubist Castle. A cornerstone of 1990s psychedelic indie pop, this album blends Beatles/Beach Boys-inspired melody, lo-fi recording, tape collage, drone passages, surreal lyrics, and homespun experimental production into one of the defining releases of the Elephant 6 scene.

The 2011 Chunklet vinyl reissue brought the long out-of-print double LP back into circulation with retouched original artwork, deluxe Stoughton tip-on packaging, and a download card containing rare and unreleased bonus material. The download material included Explanation II: Instrumental Themes and Dream Sequences, originally issued with early CD copies, plus B-sides and related archival tracks.

Produced by Robert Schneider, the album was originally recorded at Pet Sounds Studio in Denver and is known for its intentionally handmade psychedelic production: layered four-track textures, ambient field recordings, tape-splice transitions, horn and organ colors, fuzzed-out guitars, and bright pop hooks woven into dreamlike sound experiments. The bonus Explanation II material famously included environmental sounds recorded outdoors on a four-track recorder and was intended as a companion listening experience.
