The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Debut Self-Titled LP UK 1st Press [Ex/Ex-]

Description

A genuine 1st mono from 1965 on UK Elektra. Note how the labels mention "recording 1st published 1965" - as the original copies should exhibit. Also note the labels are clearly very EARLY - no mentioning of Polydor distribution which would exhibit from '66. But there's more! Take a close look at the track listing. "Mystery Train" - is totally uncredited! And 'Shake Your Money Maker' - is credited as an 'adaptation'! As everyone knows - this is an ELMORE JAMES song! Much of this wooliness is ironed out on later pressings. But these errors were still present on the 1st 1965 copies. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original '65 USA printed pasted over cover. As I understand it the early Butterfield UK copies should come with USA printed covers. We also have the original generic white inner. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex) In superb condition and has only seen light careful use. Under close inspection I could only make out a few slight marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are lovely quiet and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. This a great little player and handles upbeat numbers with aplomb and the quiet numbers easily with barely a whiff of background. It's a really nice clean player - throughout. Actually - it is FANTASTIC! Expect just a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated spots per side. . It's an absolute belter and would be hard to match. I'm of the opinion that the original proper 1st pressing is a bit of a hard find - and in this condition...a REAL collectable.
Cover (Ex-) These original '65 USA cover usually surface in pretty poor condition. Imagine my surprise when I picked up this bad-boy! It is super sweet. A lovely clean looking front without ageing, surface wear or creasing. The rear has escaped most of the usual ageing process - just some very light evidence/handling at extremities. The past-over job is superb and there are no hidden issues. Hardly any edge wear and firm openings [this must be seriously unusual]. The spine is 100% intact [wow]. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card employed in manufacture. Seriously impressive.
Inner (Vg+) lightly aged. No splits.
