Description

A classic album by the great Herbie Hancock, recorded in April 1969 by Rudy Van Gelder for the iconic Blue Note label, The Prisoner was released in 1970. This was Hancock's seventh album on Blue Note Records and has (so far) proved to be his last on that label under his own name. It was inspired by Martin Luther King (as the opening track title illustrates), who had been assassinated the previous April and other pieces also express what Hancock described as a "social statement written in music".

Since his time in Miles Davis' "second great quintet" in the sixties, right up to the present day, Hancock has of course become one of the most revered musicians on the planet. He continues to perform live (such as at Glastonbury Festival in 2022) and release contemporary music, now at the age of 84.

This album is from my personal collection. The vinyl is in Very Good+ (VG+) condition and plays throughout without any skipping, with just the odd click here and there.  The sleeve is in Very Good+ (VG+) condition, with just some 'ring wear' on the front and a 1cm tear on the spine (see photos).  All photos are of the actual item for sale, not 'stock' photos.
