And the marches are not sophisticated compositions for parade-ground ceremonial but the tunes to which the army went to war - and which were sometimes played upon the battlefield."
Martin Wyndham-Read (b. 1942) has had great success as a folk singer. He lived in Australia from 1958 to 1967 and gained fame for his rendition of Australian folk songs. More recently, he has been known for his Maypoles to Mistletoe concerts, a holiday staple in the Sussex region, and for the Song Links projects, which produce books and CDs of English and Australian folk songs.
The Druids were a short lived (late 1960s to early 1970s) folk band out of Derby, England. They ran the Druids Folk Club at the Chestnut Pub in Normanton.
Gerry Fox, an Irishman, was a member of The Tinkers and a regular contributor to the Irish music sessions at Boat Inn, Jackfield. He died in 2007.
The Scots Guards date back to a regiment formed by King Charles I. The Band of The Scots Guards dates back to at least the 18th century. Currently, they are one of five bands in the Foot Guards Regiments (in the Household Division). The Regiments are responsible for guarding the British monarch.
SPECIAL NOTE: This LP was inspired by a book of the same name (Songs and Music of the Redcoats) by Lewis Winstock. This auction is ONLY for the LP. I do not have the book.
