Description
Released in the UK on Decca Records in November 1966, 'Big Hits' (High Tide in Green Grass) was the Stones first compilation/hits album that seemed to capture the group at its very best.....featuring six of their number one UK hits.
The copy being offered for this listing is the rarer Mono version. Though Stereo was the format on the rise in 1966, the Mono pressing of this album is the one that most audiophiles find more desirable due to its having a more dynamic, direct, and clearer sound. Having heard both formats I can say without any hesitation that the Mono pressing is the clear winner.
Gatefold Cover: Excellent +.....due to this album's enormous popularity, most vintage copies of this title are found completely worn out and abused. Finding one like this that has almost no wear and tear is definitely the exception. The cover for this copy is unusually clean....the lamination is almost completely intact save for some minor lift in a few areas. The spine is solid and fully legible. The inner gatefold is virtually perfect showing the stapled booklet attached without issue. You won't find too many copies today that look like this.
Record: Excellent+ to Near Mint.....the vinyl has decent weight and there is a wonderful shine to both sides. Under strong light a few marks and hairlines are seen but upon playback they have virtually no effect on the outstanding and clear Mono audio. Both rich turquoise blue labels are clean, deep-grooved, and show only a few spindle lines. This pressing certainly does justice to the early classic music of the Stones which no digital medium till now has been able to touch.
