This 1966 Rolling Stones UK FIRST ISSUE compilation LP with ‘UNBOXED’ DECCA LOGOS on the labels is hardly ever offered for sale.
This is the extremely rare real thing: a GENUINE UK first issue ‘unboxed’ logo LP in excellent condition. The record, cover and inner sleeve are all in a collectable condition, without any serious defects like scratches, tears, stickers, writing and such like. See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1966 not reprints. The LP is the original UK issue stereo LP, which was only played occasionally on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.
THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF THIS INCREDIBLY RARE ALBUM EVER OFFERED FOR SALE IN RECENT TIMES
Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) is the first official compilation album by The Rolling Stones, released on 28 March 1966, on London Records in the US and on 4 November 1966, by Decca Records in the UK. The two releases featured different cover art and track listing. The front cover for the American release was used for the rear photo on the UK edition. This is the UK edition offered for sale here.
The album cover photo (US edition) was shot at Franklin Canyon Park in Los Angeles, California.
Reaching #3 on the US charts, where it remained for two years, Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) proved to be a big smash and currently remains a popular Rolling Stones retrospective.
The UK Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) includes tracks released after the American edition appeared. The Rolling Stones' debut 1963 single, a cover of Chuck Berry's "Come On", was included, but its more successful follow-up, "I Wanna Be Your Man" — composed by rivals (although in reality friends) Lennon and McCartney — was left off the album.
Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) reached no. 4 in the UK charts.
This may be your only ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to own this rare piece of rock history in this condition.
The first hits compilation of the Rolling Stones is still one of the most potent collections of singles that one can find. Listening to it in 1966 or today, one can understand how, almost prematurely for the 1960s -- as most of the material here dates from 1964 or 1965 -- the Stones set themselves up as the decade's most visible rock & roll rebels. The defiant, in-your-face fuzztone riff and sexually frustrated lyrics of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and the frenetic pounding punk anthem "Get Off of My Cloud" are highlights of a 12-song set that has no weak points, only peaks -- the louder-than-life rhythm guitars on "It's All Over Now" and "The Last Time," the wailing R&B of "Time Is on My Side," the balladry, folk, and soul style of "As Tears Go By" and "Tell Me," and all of the rest make for a body of work that's still amazing to hear decades after the fact. Appearing as it did in the late winter of 1966, this collection completely missed the group's drift into psychedelia, and it has since been supplanted by Hot Rocks and More Hot Rocks, but Big Hits is still the most concentrated dose of the early Stones at their most accessible that is to be had, short of simply playing their first five U.S. albums. The artwork and photography were pretty cool too, and the original LP had one of rock's early classic gatefold album designs.
