Description
Here it is, a true first press of the most highly sought of all original RCA stereo recordings: The Royal Ballet Gala - conducted by Ernest Ansermet and performed by The Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden. This is the Original RCA Box (LDS 6065) with all original stampers - 1S/1S/1S/1S. It is complete with both records, the book, both original inner sleeves, and both the outer box and inner box.
It is somewhat unusual, as it does not have the original image on the front - some early pressings were apparently distributed without front art as samples.
Condition - Outer box shows wear including age staining, and the orignal image on front is missing (this copy may have been distributed as a sample before front image was available). Inner box also shows general wear. Box grades at about VG. Book shows light signs of use. Record look pretty nice with light signs of use including light marks. Visually, the records grade at about VG+. However, I listened to all 4 sides, and the some parts of the records do not play quite as well as they look. Most sides (particularly sides 1 and 4) have persistent light to moderate static. There are also 2 pressing bubbles toward the end of side 3 that are visible and that cause audible ticks. Overall, listening grade is about VG.
Regarding shipping - I ship quickly using new, professional grade materials. Shipping can be combined on multiple title orders.
Regarding grading - I try to grade by Goldmine standards - Mint (M), Near Mint (NM), Near Mint Minus (NM-), Very Good Plus (VG+), Very Good (VG), Very Good Minus (VG-), Good (G). I do not use the grade Mint on unsealed, opened records, discs or tapes. I reserve that designation for sealed items only. The highest grade I give opened, unsealed items is NM.
