Description
Original pressing of "The Savage Young Beatles". BLACK "BM 69" on the cover. This was an unauthorized LP.
The original 2nd pressing from Savage Records from approx. Oct. 1965. Spizer version SAV 69.MR2. This record was heavily counterfeited and the originals are very rare; the fakes are very easy to find all over the place. The 1st pressing was an orange cover with a yellow label. Less than 100 are known to exist. This 2nd pressing has the yellow cover with orange label. The counterfeits generally say "stereo" on the cover and the "BM 69" is in red. The authentic original LPs were mono and had the "BM 69" in black.
I use the visual grading standards of the Cox/Daniels "Price Guide For The Beatles American Records" (6th edition). These grading standards tend to be more stringent (and, due to this, are graded slightly lower) than Goldmine. See my various photos of the cover and record. I grade conservatively using a bright light so the buyer knows exactly what they are bidding on.
Record - VG to VG+
This is the real deal.. very thick vinyl. The counterfeits are thin flimsy vinyl. Some minor hairlines on the record although none are deep. Looks like this wasn't played too many times. Overall, pretty nice condition for over 50 years old. No spindle hole wear. No writing or stickers on the labels. Runout text is: BM-49A and BM-69B.
Cover - G
Finding this cover is even VG condition is very rare since it was very cheaply made. The original manufacturer made this cover out of recycled cardboard and the front and rear slicks were applied; it was not a glued cardboard cover which the major record manufacturers used. Nearly all of the covers for this LP that I have ever seen have totally split seams and spine since folded cardboard covers were not used by this manufacturer. Portions of this cover's spine and seams are taped. Part of the front slick along the open side has some small missing pieces and tears which someone tried to tape over at some point. There is some writing ("memo") on the cover's rear upper left corner. There is a corner crease but not really any ring wear. Not great shape but still presentable given the rarity of the LP and difficulty in finding covers in anything other than this one's shape. Again, the condition of this cover is what is very commonly found for this LP after nearly 55 years.
LP will be shipped promptly in a rigid cardboard mailer for protection; I ship the vinyl outside of the cover in order to protect the cover during shipment. Payment is due within 3 days of the auction's end. Great piece of rock and roll history! Please see my other Beatles items for sale.
